Marvel Comics have announced a new five-part “Captain Carter” miniseries by the creative team of writer Jamie McKelvie, and artist Marika Cresta. In addition to writing, McKelvie designed this iteration of Captain Carter; his designs will be spotlighted on the first issue’s Design Variant.

“Captain Carter” will take place in modern day, with Carter’s backstory being similar to that of her What If…? counterpart; Captain Carter exists after Agent Peggy Carter took the Super-Soldier Serum in the place of Steve Rogers, with her being the individual to be frozen in ice during the Second World War and thawed in the present. The series will see Carter grappling with the changes that have occurred during her absence, whilst trying to figure out exactly what she wants from her newfound place in time.

In a statement, McKelvie said, “I’m as big a fan of the Captain Carter we’ve seen onscreen as anybody, so I jumped at the chance to create our own version.” McKelvie and Marvel’s announcment left the nature of any potential distinguishing features between the What If…? iteration of the character and the miniseries’s to be revealed. McKelvie praised Cresta’s work thus far, stating “there’s so much life and energy to Peggy and the rest of the cast, and the action scenes are stunning.”

“Captain Carter” #1 is scheduled for release on March 9, 2022. You can check out the McKelvie Design Variant here.
