Marvel Continues Esoteric Teaser Campaign with “Count on Marvel to Always Deliver!”

After the “…of the Dead” tease and the “#1” tease, Marvel now gives us a tease entitled “Count on Marvel to Always Deliver!”, with the attached press release reading “A cut above the rest…” (ellipsis included). There’s nothing we could ostensibly glean from this other than a) a reference to Wolverine and/or b) a bold new marketing strategy – “Marvel: We’re Just Better!”

Oh, and there are 52 scratches in the tease. Gee, wonder what that could be referencing? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

Marvel has, in recent years, had an open and playful antagonism to their Distinguished Competition, so why stop now? Yesterday’s “#1” tease could just be to say that they’re number one, because while they’re not fully dominating in sales yet, “Superior Spider-Man” #1 debuted at the top spot in January 2013, with Marvel taking 7 out of the 10 spots overall. Maybe this is just a bit of playful ego.

Or it’s a new book with a tongue-in-cheek title. Either/or.

Still, everyone likes a guy or gal with confidence!

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
