“Exterminate the Past. Eliminate the Future.” That is the tagline for Marvel’s previously announced X-Men event “Extermination,” written by Ed Brisson and illustrated by Pepe Larraz. Today Marvel revealed ‘Countdown to ‘Extermination,’ a series of five “post-credit” scenes in various X-Men books ahead of the event’s first issue in August. The scenes come courtesy of Brisson and artist Oscar Bazaldua (“Spider-Man”).

The event looks to be teasing the end for Marvel’s time-displaced “original” X-Men who were brought forward in time in “All-New X-Men” in 2012. A new description for the series and these scenes was revealed also which adds to that speculation:

Witness the the final days of the original X-Men.
Twenty years into the future, mutantkind is on the verge of extinction. And we promise you, the X-Men will not survive! But how will this nightmare come to pass? And is it too late to prevent it? Find out in these issues, as we count down to “Extermination”!

The first of these post-credit scenes showed up last week in “X-Men Gold” #27. The other four will appear in “X-Men Blue” #27 later this month, “X-Men Red” #5 in June, and “Astonishing X-Men” #13 and “Cable” #159 in July. This is the second instance of Marvel using these post-credit scenes after the ‘Where’s Wolverine?’ scenes ahead of “The Hunt for Wolverine” #1.

You can check out the graphic Marvel released for the post-credit scenes, and check out the first of them out now, and “Extermination” #1 in August!
