Big news today from Marvel regarding its upcoming Ant-Man feature. Heh. Big news.

The film, which was meant to be directed by Edgar Wright until he left over creative differences will now be helmed by Peyton Reed, director of comedy films like The Break-Up, Bring It On, and Yes Man. On one hand, these types of films don’t seem like Reed’s type of forte, especially since he has very background with action movies, but he’s still made some funny films. And he also directed several episodes of the underrated Upright Citizen’s Brigade series so he’s alright in my books. Not necessarily ideal but yeah, he seems like a nice guy.

Still, it is a shame that we’ll never see the original Ant-Man story Wright had planned for years, especially since Adam McKay will be rewriting the original script drafted by Wright and Attack the Block’s Joe Cornish.

Even though the new creatives on this project are all talented people, it’s still disheartening that we’ll probably never know what Wright had planned for the Ant-Man family since many people were getting hyped to see Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man, not necessarily Ant-Man himself.

Despite all the creative shuffling, Ant-Man is still expected to come out in theaters July 17, 2015.
