For the past few years, the character of Black Panther has been a major player in Marvel’s biggest storylines yet hasn’t had an ongoing series to really anchor the character. He’s flitted between supporting roles mostly in Jonathan Hickman-written comics like “Fantastic Four” and “New Avengers” ever since his last ongoing, “Black Panther: Man Without Fear”, ended. It should be no real surprise, then, that with his feature film debut happening next year and a solo film project coming soon after that Marvel would finally get the finger out and give him a push in the comics.

Black Panther will be getting a brand new ongoing series next year and the NY Times revealed that it will be written by Atlantic editor and novelist, Ta-Nehisi Coates, and illustrated by Brian Stelfreeze. This creative already has me jazzed for this comic as it shows a real support for the character that a black man is writing the series and, honestly, I just love Stelfreeze’s art and I’m always happy to buy comics by him.

There’s more details over at the NY Times including comments from Coates about his transition into comics and how this whole thing came about so go check that out and keep an eye on this space for more about “Black Panther” coming next year!

Alice W. Castle

Sworn to protect a world that hates and fears her, Alice W. Castle is a trans femme writing about comics. All things considered, it’s going surprisingly well. Ask her about the unproduced Superman films of 1990 - 2006. She can be found on various corners of the internet, but most frequently on Twitter: @alicewcastle
