Well, isn’t this an interesting development. With the X-Men films seeing something of a resurgence after First Class and Days Of Future Past and the hopes of keeping the franchise blazing into its 16th year next year with the upcoming X-Men: Apocalypse, it looks like Fox is finally ready to move past the Generation X TV movie and try and bring the franchise to television. It makes sense given that the DCTV shows are arguably better than whatever Warner Bros. is doing with the film franchise and Marvel Studios is successfully expanding their already successful film franchise into a television universe.
Fox will be partnering with Marvel Television to usher two shows to the small screen; Legion, as announced by the Hollywood Reporter, will feature David “Charles Xavier’s Goku lookalike son” Haller and will be brought to FX by Fargo showrunner Noah Hawley while Hellfire will be brought to Fox by Evan Katz, Manny Coto, Patrick McKay and JD Payne. Hellfire will be set in the 60s and will reportedly feature a “young Special Agent” (First Class‘ Moira McTaggart, maybe?) investigating the Hellfire Club.
Both of these shows are actually pretty interesting to me as David Haller is an amazingly diverse character to bring to life and if Noah Hawley has read any of Si Spurrier and Tan Eng Huat’s run on “X-Men: Legacy” then we should be in for a treat. Hellfire might be a bit more hit or miss depending on how that turns out, but with Fox’s track record with the X-Men films I’m just glad we’re not getting a Wolverine show.
