Oh boy. Marvel just unleashed holy hell on the world of comics from SXSW, as they rolled out a litany of digital initiatives that include, but are not limited to:
– An Earth’s Mightiest Heroes web show hosted by Blair Butler
– Project Gamma, an audio compliment to your digital comics, featuring adaptive audio (see video below and the article at Rolling Stone)
– Marvel Firsts, in which Marvel gives everyone access to 700 first issues digitally for free (these will revert back to a $1.99 to $3.99 price point by Tuesday though)
– A weekly Infinite Comics initiative, telling four different stories over one year – 13 weeks at a time – starting with Jason Aaron and Jason Latour writing a Wolverine in Japan story set to build up hype for The Wolverine.
Near as I can tell, these are the brainchildren of bright people like Ron Perazza over at Marvel, but one way or another, it’s clear that Marvel is doing all they can to push digital comics in new and exciting directions. Look for more from Multiversity staff tomorrow about Digital, and wowza to Marvel’s Sunday.
