According to Latino Review, Marvel and actor Johnny Depp have met over the idea of Depp potentially playing the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange, in an upcoming Marvel film. The report shares that this isn’t something that would take place for some time – namely, Phase 3 in 2016 – but it’s something they are quite serious about as they are in “the megastar business” (which makes sense given the casting of Michael Douglas in “Ant-Man” yesterday.
Whether or not anything comes from this is uncertain, but Depp as Doctor Strange is about as fitting as any actor and the character could be. My only concern would be Depp would make it a bit of an over-the-top ridiculousness fest, but given the ability of Marvel to make damn near everything work (besides a solo Hulk film), I imagine they could get him to reign it in, especially if they paired him with a top notch director.
