Announced via the Hollywood Reporter, Marvel will be launching a brand new series starring a Deathlok that, if you’ve been watching Agents of SHIELD, probably seems a bit familiar.
Written by Nathan Edmondson, illustrated by Mike Perkins and colored by Andy Troy, “Deathlok” #1 debuts in October and stars Henry Hayes, a brand new Marvel character who will debut in this week’s “Original Sins” #1 anthology. Similar in spirit to J. August Richards of the show, who will heretofore be known as Showlok, Edmondson describes the new character as a blend between classic Deathlok and the new Showlok. Hayes is a father and a medic who doesn’t know he’s a machine, summed up as a cross between Robocop and the Manchurian Candidate.
Mike Perkins is a pretty great pick for this kind of series, additionally. Most likely known to readers for his run in “Captain America”, readers will know that a gritty, real-world style war story is pretty suiting for him. If Marvel is going to shoehorn in Showlok as much as they can, at least they’ll make it a great visual book with Perkins set to illustrate.
Additionally, Edmondson had mentioned previously he had plans for a third Marvel book, which would feel “ripple effects” of an upcoming “Black Widow”/”Punisher” crossover. I’d imagine this is that book, though us seeing Henry Hayes in that series is doubtful, given his role in “Original Sins.”
“Deathlok” #1 comes out in October.
