Marvel is bringing back a major character in the pages of the upcoming “Marvel Legacy” one-shot, by Jason Aaron and Esad Ribic. Listen to Deadpool and stop now if you want to avoid spoilers for the issue below.

Like most once-dead characters in comics, the original Wolverine will be returning from the grave as part of Marvel’s ‘Legacy’ event. It’s not clear how it actually happens yet, but he has one of the Infinity Stones in his possession when he does come back. Marvel’s editor-in-chief, Alex Alonso, said of Wolverine’s return, “After three years of a Logan-free Marvel Universe, Logan is back, claws popped and ready for action. How he came back, why he came back, and just how he came into possession of that Infinity Stone are part of a fascinating story that’s going to unveil soon, and in some unusual places.”

Wolverine was killed off in the events of 2014’s “Death of Wolverine” mini-series, by Charles Soule and Steve McNiven. He had lost his healing factor and was believed to be suffocated after being encased in molten adamantium. Since then, Laura Kinney (a.k.a. X-23) has taken on the “Wolverine” mantle. Also, the older, grizzled “Old Man Logan” version of the character is running around due to the events of “Secret Wars.” So the Marvel Universe hasn’t really been “Logan-free,” as Alonso stated. It’s unclear where those two will end up, but don’t be surprised if Marvel just keeps all three. ‘Legacy’ seems to be doubling down on Marvel’s initiative of having multiple versions of every major character.

“Marvel Legacy” #1 will be on sale September 27.
