Recharged, reforged, and reborn, prepare for MARVEL REBIRTH… I mean MARVEL LEGACY! Following the lead of DC Comics’ Rebirth initiative Marvel is launching a bold new direction which will see “the most popular characters in the world joined by the most acclaimed creators in the comic book industries” for stories full of “hope, wonder, enjoyment, and fun!”
Everything kicks off with the “Marvel Legacy” one-shot, a 50-page special written by Jason Aaron (“The Mighty Thor”) and drawn by Esad Ribic (“Secret Wars”). Boasting the return of a beloved Marvel mainstay, “Marvel Legacy” is meant to set up stories for characters such as The Odinson, Squirrel Girl, Spider-Man, The Avengers, America Chavez, Iron Man, Moon Knight, The Guardians of the Galaxy, Captain Marvel, Luke Cage, The X-Men, Captain America, Ms. Marvel, Deadpool, The Champions, Wolverine, The Hulk, Ironheart, The Punisher, and more. Marvel describes it as a “perfect entry point for all readers” as “the new status quo of MU is laid out in dazzling fashion.”
From there each character’s stories will spin into new books, relaunched with the character’s legacy numbering to honor and restore their long history. Under the Legacy banner Marvel will attempt to pair all of the best creators with their top characters to create “new & epic storylines.”
“The Marvel Legacy initiative is a celebration of everything that makes Marvel the best in fiction and it’s a signifier of a new era for Marvel Comics.” said Marvel CCO, Joe Queseda. Marvel Legacy is said to be bringing back fan-service and fun elements to the Marvel Universe. “It’s a loving look at the heart of Marvel as we embrace our roots and move enthusiastically forward with all the Marvel characters you know and love starring in the biggest, boldest, best Marvel stories.”
While fans were asked to look for creative team announcements in the coming month, we did receive the announcements that the Marvel Value Stamp, the classic fan magazine “FOOM,” and cover corner box art would be making a return in Marvel Legacy.

Marvel has released a promotional image which appears to feature simply the classic Avengers, with the inclusion of Carol Danvers’ Captain Marvel. It’s interesting to note that in the press release Thor is named as Odinson, but he appears as Thor in the promotional image. It’s also fun to notice what appears to be a return to some classic costumes such as the inclusion of the wings on the side of Captain America’s (Steve Rogers) head, and the retro look for Iron Man.
