Marvel Narrows Search in Look for “Jessica Jones” and “Luke Cage” Leads

As part of Marvel’s big Netflix roll out on their street level characters, five series were going to be made: “Daredevil”, “Iron Fist”, “Jessica Jones”, “Luke Cage” and a big “Defenders” series to wrap those four all together. So far, “Daredevil” has been the only series that has had any real movement, as it’s currently being filmed for a 2015 release and has a pretty damn fantastic cast. The rest? Not so much.

But there’s finally movement on that horizon, as Deadline reported that Marvel has cast their all-seeing eye on four actresses for the role of Jessica Jones and two (amongst likely others) for Cage.

For Jessica Jones, they’re looking at Krysten Ritter (“Breaking Bad”), Alexandra Daddario (“True Detective”, “Percy Jackson) series), Teresa Palmer (“Warm Bodies”) and Jessica De Gouw (“Arrow”). The series, which is being fueled by showrunner Melissa Rosenberg, will follow the path of the old Bendis and Gaydos joint “Alias” as Jones working as a private detective after a traumatic conclusion to her superhero career. The character at her best is caustic, effective and pretty damn broken, and of the four, Ritter and Daddario stand out the most.

Ritter’s mostly known as a comedic actress, but her work as Jesse Pinkman’s lady love Jane on “Breaking Bad” is a pretty good recipe for Jones. Meanwhile, Daddario’s role in “True Detective” as the fly in Woody Harrelson’s ointment Lisa makes her an actress to watch, and someone who would also fit the feel of the role well. Palmer’s actually pretty gifted as well – she brings a lot of charm to some pretty one-note roles – and De Gouw…well, the less said about her the better, as her Huntress in “Arrow” was the worst character the show ever had, but I’m personally rooting for Ritter or Daddario.

Meanwhile, Cage – who is apparently set to appear in about half of the “Jessica Jones” series – has two names being considered: Mike Colter (“The Good Wife”) and Lance Gross (“Crisis”). I’ll be totally honest, I have no experience with either actor, but it sounds like this search is really only in its infancy. More names will begin arising soon, and we’ll cover them as we hear them. For now, how do you feel about any of the names coming out? Any other ones you’d like to throw out there?
