The other day it was revealed that Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes was going to be cancelled and replaced with a more movie-esque cartoon, but it was under somewhat dubious means so we took it with a grain of salt.

Well, toss away the salt. It has been confirmed: 2013 will see Avengers Assemble, a new cartoon starring the cast of the movie and the Falcon, while Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes will no longer air after the current season finishes airing. We wrote enough about the curious switch between cartoons in the previously linked post so we won’t say too much about it now, but we’ll note that we’re a bit sad.

Ultimate Spider-Man was also renewed for a second season, and Marvel will be debuting a new cartoon (pictured above) entitled Hulk: Agents of SMASH. What does the SMASH stand for? Anything you want it to, according to Loeb in the previously linked TV Guide interview. It will star all the current Hulks we know from the books, though, from Rulk to A-Bomb and Skaar. No sign of Lyra yet, but she’s probably not far off.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
