With Eve Ewing and Kim Jacinto’s “Outlawed” one-shot turning the world of teen vigilantism upside down this March, Marvel is reinvigorating and relaunching “Power Pack,” “New Warriors” and “Champions” for April 2020. The three teams will be grappling with the introduction of Kamala’s Law, which makes it illegal for anyone under the age of 21 to operate as a super hero in the United States.

“Power Pack” will be a five-part miniseries written by Ryan North (“Unbeatable Squirrel Girl”) with art by Nico Leon (“Agents of Atlas”) and covers by Ryan Stegman (“Absolute Carnage”). “For readers who have loved the ‘Power Pack’ since their introduction in 1984 to those who maybe haven’t even heard of them yet, I hope you’ll check them out,” said North. “They’re a group of four siblings who get superpowers but still keep all the issues you get when you’re in a group of four siblings, people you love and sometimes hate and have known in some cases your entire life. It’s hard! But it’s also a lot of fun, and that’s what we’re hoping to capture in this story, along with an examination of what being a superhero actually means.” The series solicitation alludes to “a special occasion — and an old grudge” that will reunite the Power Pack, despite Kamala’s Law threatening to stop them from saving New York.

In “New Warriors,” writer Daniel Kibblesmith (“Loki”), artist Luciano Vecchio (“Ironheart”) and cover artist RB Silva (“Powers of X”) will bring the famous ’90s superhero team back to the forefront, following their public defeat at the beginning of “Civil War.” Night Thrasher (a.k.a skateboarding Batman) will be rebuilding his old team, including Firestar, Silhouette, Rage, Speedball, and Namorita, to help mentor a new generation of heroes. “The New Warriors have chosen a side, and they’re recruiting unaffiliated new New Warriors to come in from the cold and get proper hero training. So we get to see all our old favorite buddies, but also a new team of heroes that we want to feel as modern and immediate as ‘the New Warriors’ felt in 1990,” Kibblesmith said in an interview with Syfy. “When I think of ‘my’ core team, those are the people I can’t imagine doing without — Night Thrasher, Namorita, Firestar, Speedball, Rage. Justice is there, but he’s torn between worlds because of his bigger role in ‘Outlawed.'”

Finally, Eve Ewing (“Ironheart,” “Outlawed”) and Simone Di Meo (“Mighty Morphin Power Rangers/Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”) will reunite the “Champions,” with Ms. Marvel, Nova, and Spider-Man/Miles Morales standing in clear defiance of Kamala’s Law. The team will be running from the law, fighting off the forces of C.R.A.D.L.E and dealing with a traitor in their midst as they become true Outlaws. “I think individually and collectively the Champions are some of the coolest, most interesting characters in the Marvel Universe,” Ewing said in her interview with Screen Rant. “I loved writing Kamala on ‘Marvel Team-Up,’ and observant readers noticed that I brought in Nadia van Dyne (Wasp) and Miles Morales on ‘Ironheart.’ And I want to tell a story that’s worthy of them.” The series will feature covers by Toni Infante.

“Power Pack,” “New Warriors,” “Champions” and more hit shelves in April 2020.

James Dowling is probably the last person on Earth who enjoyed the film Real Steel. He has other weird opinions about Hellboy, CHVRCHES, Squirrel Girl and the disappearance of Harold Holt. Follow him @James_Dow1ing on Twitter if you want to argue about Hugh Jackman's best film to date.
