Marvel Releases Another Esoteric Teaser, But One That Makes More Sense With Its Intent

So, yesterday Marvel released a teaser that made very little sense and all sites weighed in on what it could be about while I just sort of made fun of how I hate open-ended questions that end in ellipses. Mostly because I hate ellipses…

But today, Marvel has released a new teaser about whatever this is related to — and it makes a bit more sense. Look:

You may think at first it’s just the same old, same old, but thinking a bit about it actually reveals a little more. See, the first question — “Is he…?” — made us assume that the tease is only about a singular person; perhaps a resurrected character (I was 100% shocked no one linked the teaser to Marvelman yesterday, honestly).

But with this tease, it’s a little bit easier to see that it’s more generic than that. “Is he…? Are they…?” Plus the added note at the bottom: “See Something? Say Something.” This is just a general mantra that government passes down to the people when crowd-sourcing the general populous to look out for terrorists. I don’t know about the rest of you, but I hear something along these lines over loudspeakers nearly every time I ride the subway.

So it’s clear that the teasers and their nods in the press releases (the latest one reading “In the wake of Infinity, the Marvel Universe faces a new threat. Find out more, September 18th!”) are tied towards similar ideals, I’d imagine. Just probably less with general terrorists and more with terrorist metaphors.

The question remains as to which of the following it refers to:

1. “Inhumanity”, the event-thing helmed by Fraction and Madureira that takes place after the events of Hickman’s event with Opena, Weaver and Cheung
2. The events of “Infinity” #3, which is going to be released on the 18th (confirmed here) which will assumedly revolve around the revelation at the end of this week’s “Infinity” #2 about a certain secret in the house of the Inhumans
3. Some other thing. Maybe, like, mutants or whatever.

Really, I’ve just tacked on that last bit so that whenever it is revealed what this is I can just say, “Oh, look! I told you!”

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
