The comic internet is a-buzz and it is of no surprise: Marvel has released the trailer for what just may be the most highly anticipated film of 2012 (except, to some fans, maybe the Dark Knight Rises). Featuring the long awaited/oft teased assembly of the Avengers on the big screen, Marvel’s Joss Whedon Avengers film is assuredly going to be a nerdgasm of epic proportions — and it all starts with this little trailer.

For those who waited until the end of the Captain America credits, you already saw a brief tease at the assembling to come, but the above trailer gives a great look at the Avengers and their feature film foe of Loki. The new trailer also gives us some new Iron Man featuring all-new RDJ sass, as well as a tease at the look of Ruffalo’s the Incredible Hulk for the film. There are hints of a greater conflict going on throughout, which could be in relation to the original Avengers storyline which featured Loki mind controlling the Hulk to fight the Avengers, and even teases for some in-fighting.

There is also plenty of Hawkeye and Black Widow to whet the appetite for the two characters yet to have their own film, as well as plenty of Nick Fury (although surprisingly no Maria Hill, played by Colbie Smulders).

Long story short? It looks great.

Look forward to more Avengers related videos and news come NYCC this weekend, and the film next summer.

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
