Marvel have announced a four-part ‘King in Black’ miniseries, “Return of the Valkyries,” by writers Jason Aaron and Torunn Grønbekk and artist Nina Vakueva (“Heavy Vinyl,” “League of Legends: Ashe – Warmother”). Mattia De lulis will be providing the cover art for each issue.

The miniseries will follow Jane Foster, the last remaining Valkyrie, as she tries to rebuild the Valkyrie army ahead of Knull’s arrival on Earth. The first members of her new army will be the Asgardian warrior, Hildegarde, New Mutant Dani Moonstar, and a third character, whose identity has not yet been revealed. Grønbekk stated that the miniseries will see Jane Foster teaming up with “some of the most badass characters” in the Marvel Universe, teasing “there are some surprises coming.”

These “surprises” are likely to include the “Exiles” version of Brunnhilde, who appears on the cover for the book. Grønbekk added, “To match the epic, dark, horrific madness that is ‘King in Black,’ we’re bringing the Valkyries into uncharted territory, leading up to a battle only they can fight.” She concluded, “I’m also tremendously excited to work with Nina on this book. The script is filled with weird and terrifying stuff, and she’s taking it in strides — her work is mindblowing!”

Jane Foster took over as the leader of the Valkyries after the original Brunnhilde was killed during ‘War of the Realms.’ She then got her own solo series in 2019 which ran until earlier this year.

‘King in Black’ begins in December, with “King in Black: Return of the Valkyries” #1 and #2 scheduled for release in January.
