Revealed last night while most people were probably watch Game of Thrones or The Walking Dead, USA Today had the exclusive reveal for Marvel’s next big event – and it’s pretty much just what you thought it’d be last time we heard about it.
Written by Jonathan Hickman and illustrated by Jim Cheung, Jerome Opena and Dustin Weaver, “Infinity” is a six-issue event book launching in August in which Thanos makes his latest move against the Earth after the Avengers have left it for their current mission. Both Hickman’s “Avengers” and “New Avengers” will tie-in to the event, with “Avengers” finding the team banding together with space heroes Nova and the Guardians as they try to unite the Skrulls, Kree and Brood against a common foe, the Builders (who Hickman has shown/teased in the book).
“New Avengers,” on the other hand, will focus on the superheroes left on Earth dealing with Thanos, focusing on street-level characters where Thanos is completely out of their wheelhouse, although they’ll receive help from the Inhumans (with Hickman noting in the article that there is going to be a big push for the Inhumans in joining the Marvel Universe — or, I suppose, the greater conscious awareness of readers, since they’re technically already in the Marvel Universe).
So, Avengers? Check! Tie-ins? Check! More big pushes to make people aware of the Cosmic Marvel U assumedly with cosmic movies coming out? Check! Excitement over cynicism anyway because it’s Hickman? Check!
