Spoilers below, etc. etc. If you’re clicking into this post, it’s probably because you don’t mind the spoiler and are complicit with something being spoiled. OK? Yes.

As much as it sucks when news sites like this one reveal a spoiler, Marvel has stealthily unveiled the full cover for “Cataclysm” #4, on sale next week. Originally featuring a blacked out image (which you can see above), the image was revealed in the back of yesterday’s “Ultimate X-Men” finale and subsequently popped up online.

Ready for the reveal? Here you go:

Captain America! NOOO! NOT AGAIN!

Ok, so it’s Cap. And, honestly, this could mean nothing. He doesn’t have to be dead; we’re supposed to assume he’s dead. Not only that, but the original silhouette doesn’t even really match Cap’s physique or the inclusion of his shield — which was either a) done on purpose to trick readers or b) this represents a change. Either is potential, depending on your level of cynicism.

It is perhaps noteworthy, of course, that Captain America has not appeared anywhere in the unveiling of new Ultimate titles, so you’re perhaps out of luck if he’s your favorite character. I suppose we’ll find out next week.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
