Marvel Teases The End

In the latest of the Phase Two teasers of Marvel NOW!, Marvel has released a teaser simply reading “THE END” with Dan Slott and Giuseppe Camuncoli attached.

It’s a tough call as to what this is ostensibly referring to (whereas the “Rad!” tease was pretty easy to guess at). If I hadn’t looked at the creative team and just the purple text, I would’ve guessed that The End referred to the Ultimate Universe, which is seemingly coming to it’s grand finale — but Dan Slott has never written for the Ultimate Universe, so why would he write it’s requiem?

However, the big thing that Slott is writing that most people expect will come to some kind of end eventually is the Superior Spider-Man, in which Doctor Otto Octavius infected Peter’s mind and took over his body — and this teaser would seemingly be a nod to that, if only for the blatant reference that this teaser will be discussed during the Superior Spider-Man panel of NYCC. Comics are, by nature, rather circular when it comes to certain things never being able to move past a certain point — Peter Parker will always have to be Spider-Man somewhere — but if we’re being finicky and using any of the lessons Breaking Bad taught us about analyzing color, purple is not a color traditionally ever associated with the character.

So if we’re to assume the colors and the words are related, I’m stumped.

We’ll find out soon.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
