“Villain Month? BAH!” says Marvel. “We’ll announce our OWN new book! With blackjack! And Avengers!”
Announced on their website, Marvel is planning some kind of Mighty something or rather for the upcoming “Infinity” event. Little is known about it other than that while the Avengers are away, someone else needs to play. Who else is going to watch the tower and the mansion? Oh, and all of Earth in general.
Smart money would assume that this would be a “Mighty Avengers” relaunch, starring the Avengers who didn’t go into space to fight Thanos. After all, with “Dark Avengers” gone, that leaves a gap in the quota for how many Avengers books we need in a given month. There must be more!
That said, the last “Mighty Avengers” run was quite great. Started by Bendis post-“Civil War”, the book was the Avengers B-Team to his “New Avengers” title, and when it was later taken over by Dan Slott post-“Secret Invasion” the book got even better with its different cast of characters and more obscure villains. If you like books that take place in continuity but aren’t a slave to whatever is the big thing going on, that was the book for you — and hopefully this new book will be that as well.
Oh, and if you use the Marvel AR app, Tom Brevoort says there will be announcements all week and that the fist in the tease is related to Luke Cage. Given that there was a tease for Bendis doing a new book, perhaps with Mike Deodato, featuring a new version of the Heroes for Hire, do you suppose that this is all related? It’s not like Hickman would be writing another Avengers book, right?
So… “Mighty Heroes for Hire” then?
