Ok, so. The story goes is that we had been trumpeting the death of the Ultimate Universe for a good long while, and we weren’t exactly right. It turned out that the Ultimate Universe would relaunch and hopefully get better because if something is broke, don’t fix it, just relaunch it! And while that may sound sarcastic, honestly, the new Ultimate Universe sounds pretty cool — Michel Fiffe writing what’s basically Ultimate Young Avengers? I dig it.
And, as we had noted, something was still alive in between — and it’s the “Survive” one-shot by Brian Bendis and Joe Quinones! And today, Marvel showed off the cover to the issue. Are you ready? Here it is:

Sorry Captain America. You don’t get to come back. Everyone else? Yeah, alright.
So the issue essentially serves as a funeral for Captain America, according to Bendis, and then sets up what comes next for the three new books. You’ll get flashbacks from Kitty, Sue and Miles, three of the stars of the upcoming relaunched books, and you’ll get a whole lot of Joe Quinones art, which to me is the real selling point. (Not to editorialize too much, but at this point there’s been so much disappointment in the Ultimate Universe that I could care less — but Joe Quinones? Hell yeah. That I’m all for.)
“Catacylsm” comes to an end at the end of this month. “Survive” is out in March.
