As revealed today at Comic Book Resources, Marvel is pre-empting November’s “Spider-Verse” event with a new mini-series, “Edge of Spider-Verse.” And in it, a number of talented creators will be telling one-offs that showcase various different forms of Spider-Mans — and let me tell you, this is some exciting collaborations.
For one, MC and personal favorites Jason Latour and Robbi Rodriguez are collaborating for a universe in which Gwen Stacy became Spider-Woman (as seen above), which is all kinds of wonderful excitement. Latour and Rodriguez make for a great pair, and the revival of Stacy-love thanks to the films and Emma Stone certainly make this an exciting prospect.
Furthermore, Dustin Weaver will be writing and illustrating his own one-shot about Dr. Aaron Aikman, aka the Spider-Man of some universe somewhere. This is Weavers writing debut at Marvel, and if it is anything like his books Amnia Cycle and Saguttarius A* then I’m sold.
“Edge” will also see the return of David Hine to his Spider-Man Noir creation as well, which is pretty exciting. We also have an issue illustrated by the wonderfully talented Garry Brown and written by Pulitzer prize-nominated horror writer Clay Mcleod Chapman, which promises a spooky issue probably in time for Halloween.
The biggest news here, though, is that buried at the bottom in the last solicit, Gerard Way makes his Marvel Comics debut with Jake “Riot” Wyatt to create a brand new Spider-Man, SP//dr. That part of the solicit is a bit confusing as all of the Spider-Mans here except Spidey Noir are brand new Spider-Mans, but with Way and Wyatt behind the wheel I’m more than willing to give the benefit of the doubt that this will be something very cool. (What can I say — I’m letting my inner Way/Wyatt fanboy out.)
