Marvel Unveils Cryptic Trailer for New Battleworld Related to All Those Teasers

So for a while, Marvel released a bunch of cryptic teasers that we did not know the meanings of:  “Secret Wars.” “Civil War.” “Age of Ultron” vs “Marvel Zombies.” “Years of Future Past.” “Planet Hulk.” “Armor Wars.” “House of M.” “Infinity Gauntlet.” “Old Man Logan.” “Inhumans: Attilan Rising.” “Ultimate Universe: The End.” “Age of Apocalypse.” “Future Imperfect.” “Amazing Spider-Man: Renew Your Vows.” “Avengers vs X-Men.” “X-Men ’92.” All of it related to something coming in the Summer of 2015.

Then Marvel released a teaser that read “Everything Ends” for Spring 2015, which is ostensibly related to Jonathan Hickman’s “Avengers”/”New Avengers” run, which began with that line.

And today? Marvel has released the below teaser video revealing Battleworld. Take a look:

For those unawares, the original “Secret Wars” mini-series featured the Beyonder, an all powerful cosmic superbeing bringing together heroes and villains of Earth to fight for his amusement on a place called — you guessed it! — Battleworld. Now, we see all the teasers from last week being brought together on a map of a world, which Marvel notes in the video is the new Battleworld, and this perhaps gives us some idea of how the teasers tie together: since they all definitely have taken place according to Axel Alonso, it appears that they reside together on Battleworld (or, in the odd case of the “Inhumans: Attilan Rising” teaser and “Ultimate Universe: The End” teaser, in the exact same space). Or, at the very least, they’re different iterations of multiversal characters that have carved out portions for themselves on what once was Battleworld, living together in some form of disharmony.

A whole bunch of different iterations of characters from the multiverse being brought together by a single being to meet and fight? Man, it sure is interesting how Marvel and DC seem to have converging ideas debuting in April/May 2015, isn’t it? But I guess to be fair, Marvel did do it first.

I’m sure a big official explanation is just around the corner, so we’ll let you know more when we have it.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
