StarWars.com revealed that Marvel Comics will be publishing a new crossover event, ‘War of the Bounty Hunters.’ The main five-part series will have a prelude comic, “War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha” #1 by writer Charles Soule and artist Steve McNiven, in May, before starting fully in June with “War of the Bounty Hunters” #1 by Soule and artist Luke Ross. This announcement follows the release of McNiven’s teaser image on Monday.

The series will be set between Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, and detail Boba Fett’s journey to deliver Han Solo to Jabba the Hutt’s palace. Soule revealed that “Boba Fett is in possession of Han Solo at the end of Empire Strikes Back, and at the beginning of ‘War of the Bounty Hunters,’ he is not,” detailing that he will do “everything he can to get him back, no matter what. No matter who is standing in his way.”

Thanks to its time frame, the miniseries will crossover into Marvel’s other post-Empire Strikes Back series, such as “Star Wars,” “Bounty Hunters,” “Darth Vader,” and “Doctor Aphra.” Soule said all of his co-writers and artists (including Greg Pak, Alyssa Wong and Ethan Sacks) have formed a “fantastic team,” with everyone involved in the crossover “getting to tell their own story within this over-arching plot.” Soule closed by teasing that the series “builds into something much bigger,” and, like “best comic crossovers and big stories” are, the series is the “the start of something and… [will] open a lot of new doors.”

A selection of preview pages for “War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha” #1 are available here.
