In a new series of annual issues, Marvel will have some of their newest heroes and villains encountering the Infinity Stones for the first time, alongside some of the biggest heroes in the MU. The eight issues will run from June through September and are similar to 2019’s ‘Acts of Evil,’ which pitted heroes against unlikely villainous matches.
“We’ve had a wave of incredible new characters over the last few years, and ‘Infinite Destinies’ will shine a light on eight of them,” editor Nick Lowe said. “We’ll discover new aspects of these heroes and villains in adventures with the most archetypal Marvel heroes.”
In June, Jed MacKay (“Black Cat,” “Spider-Verse”) and Ibraim Roberson (“Old Man Logan”) will pit Iron Man against Quantum, a villain first introduced in “Miles Morales: Spider-Man,” in “Iron Man Annual” #1. Following this, Gerry Duggan (“Marauders,” “Uncanny Avengers”) and artist Marco Castiello (“Doom 2099,” “Giant-Man”) will have Captain America and Overtime (introduced in Duggan’s “Wolverine: Infinity Watch”) vying for the Time Stone in “Captain America Annual” #1.
In July we get “Thor Annual” #1, featuring the Spirit of Corruption, and “Black Cat Annual” #2 with White Fox. August has “Miles Morales: Spider-Man Annual” #1, featuring Amulet, and “Avengers Annual” #1 with an unrevealed guest star. Finally, September caps things off with “Guardians of the Galaxy Annual” #1, featuring Prince of Power, and “Amazing Spider-Man Annual” #2, guest-starring Star.
Kelly Thompson (“Star,” “Captain Marvel”) and Saladin Ahmed (“Black Bolt,” “Miles Morales: Spider-Man”) are attached to the series in unconfirmed roles, although it would be likely that Kelly Thompson would continue to write about Star in “Amazing Spider-Man Annual” #2, and that Saladin Ahmed would continue to showcase Amulet and Miles Morales in “Miles Morales: Spider-Man Annual” #1.
Every issue will include a chapter of the back-up story ‘Super-Spy vs. Super-Spy.’ It shows the face-off between Nick Fury as the Agent of Nothing, and the newly villainous Phil Coulson, Agent of Mephisto, in their first meeting since Coulson’s death in 2017.
