Matthew Vaughn to Direct "X-Men: First Class"?

X-Men: First Class, the next entry in Fox’s vaunted X-Men franchise movies, has went through a lot of creative changes without really going anywhere. First, it looked like Josh Schwartz was going to script it (I loved that choice, personally). Then it looked like Bryan Singer was going to script and direct it. Now Singer is tied into Jack the Giant Killer at Warner Bros., and it looks like Singer’s once almost replacement for the X-Men series Matthew Vaughn will be taking over (Vaughn was in line to direct X-Men 3 at one point).

Deadline reports that Fox and his reps are closing in on the negotiations after it was appearing to be on the rocks just last week.

To me, this is very exciting news. I haven’t seen Kick-Ass yet, but I’ve loved Vaughn’s other works, in particular Stardust. I think he could be a great fit for this film and hopefully we’ll get confirmation on this sooner rather than later.
