It was bound to happen at some point, right? I mean, when you love comics as much as a guy like Bemis does and you become a wicked popular rockstar, you might as well merge the two worlds together beyond just song references and themed album covers.

Revealed over at USA Today, Bemis will be releasing a book through BOOM! Studios called “Polarity”, with artist Jorge Coelho and colorist Felipe Sobriero (whom you may remember from “Luther Strode”). Running four issues, the book is apparently loosely based on Bemis’ life dealing with bipolar disorder, starring a 20 year old Brooklyn artist named Timothy Woods. Timothy finds himself in a near-fatal car accident, only to find out after that the medication he was taking for his bipolar disorder has been suppressing superhuman powers. Bemis will take events from his past life and play them up in a more heightened fictional nature to show what dealing with the disease is like, although he promises to fill it with plenty of dark humor – something like a Spider-Man movie done by Woody Allen.

In addition to that, each of the four issues will come with a free digital download code for a song to make a free EP soundtrack to the series, so if you guys are into Say Anything’s current records this sounds like a win/win situation to enter into the world of comics.

Bemis will be the latest musician/celebrity to release a comic through BOOM!, following in the footsteps of Claudio Sanchez (“Kill Audio,” “Amory Wars”), Sam Jackson (“Cold Space”) and the upcoming Paul Scheer book (“Aliens vs Parker”).

Look for “Polarity” in April of this year.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
