Via CBR, the “Middlewest” creative team of Skottie Young and Jorge Corona will reunite at Image Comics this August, for a five-part tale of romance and terror. “The Me You Love in the Dark,” written by Young with art by Corona, follows Ro, an artist who moves into a potentially haunted new home in the search for artistic inspiration. According to the book’s official synopsis, “Ro retreats from the grind of the city to an old house in a small town to find solace and inspiration, without realizing the muse within is not what she expected.

When “Middlewest,” also from Image, came to a close last July, Young and Corona wanted to take a different approach to their new project. Settling on a more subdued approach, the pair debated whether or not to make the book romance or horror, before deciding on both. “Dark and moody, this book is an exploration into love and relationships,” Corona says of the story. “The highs and the lows, where fantasy meets reality to show the darkest corners of human nature.”

“Like Ro in the comic, I went and rented a creepy house, turned off the lights, lit some candles and started writing,” Young says of scripting the book. “I didn’t come out until I was done.”

“The Me You Love in the Dark” #1 (of 5) will be available on August 4. Previews pages can be viewed on CBR.
