Marvel have announced “Meet the Skrulls,” a new comic from writer Robbie Thompson (“Silk,” “Spider-Man/Deadpool”) and artist Niko Henrichon (“Pride of Baghdad”) about a family of Skrulls living on Earth. Cover art by Marcos Martin (“Daredevil,” Dan Slott’s “Amazing Spider-Man” run), depicting the titular Warner family in both their human and alien guises, was posted yesterday on Marvel’s Twitter account.
Introduced by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in January 1962’s “Fantastic Four” #2, the shapeshifting reptilian Skrulls are among the major interstellar powers in the Marvel Comics Universe. Since their capitol world was devoured by Galactus, the Skrulls have attempted to make Earth their new homeworld, which culminated in 2008’s crossover event ‘Secret Invasion.’ Despite their defeat at the end of that storyline, Skrulls have been depicted since as quietly infiltrating Earth in books like “A+X” or Jonathan Hickman’s “Infinity,” albeit trying to lead normal lives instead of leading a takeover.
“Meet the Skrulls” #1 will be released in March 2019, coinciding with the Skrulls’ film debut in Captain Marvel (due out March 8, 2019). In the meantime, check out the promotional gif of Marcos’s shapeshifting cover:
