This December, Albatross Funnybooks will launch an all-ages limited series, “MegaGhost,” written by Gabe Soria (“Murder Ballads”) and drawn by Gideon Kendall (“Harvey Kurtzman’s Marley’s Ghost”).

“MegaGhost” follows Martin Magus, a junior occultist, who, with help from a huge supernatural ghost that can be summoned from his magic ring, protects the seaside city of Dunwich Heights.

In Newsarama’s interview with the creators, writer Soria discussed the details of how Martin came into contact with MegaGhost. Martin has a “natural curiosity and fearlessness” that has led him to explore the occult through grimoire and books. He also tends to “show off in front of a rival at school” which is what led him to the ring called Mark of the Ghost, that Martin cannot take off of his hand. Despite being stuck with the ring, it does lead Martin to meet three ghosts in the most haunted house in the city who, when a special ritual is performed, combine to form MegaGhost, a “massive, undead robot that fights the forces of evil.”

As for what “forces of evil” the duo will encounter, Soria promised “all kinds of weird creatures, creepy kaiju, power-mad magicians and more” will be attracted to Dunwich Heights. Kendall made similarly exciting promises in regards to the design of MegaGhost because he can “alter his form and his accessories,” with “all kinds of cool weaponry” going to be required to defend the town.

Eric Powell, the founder of Albatross Funnybooks, described the series as “the greatest 1970s Saturday morning cartoon show that never happened!,” to which the pair agreed, with Soria saying the book is like a “really cool secret that’s finally ready to be discovered by the world at large.”

“MegaGhost” will be released in December.
