So previously, Paul Rudd was announced as the man who will be playing Ant-Man in Edgar Wright and Marvel’s upcoming “Ant-Man” film. Much of the conversation about that casting, gleeful as it was, centered around which Ant-Man he’d play, but we now know one he won’t be playing: Hank Pym. Why?
Because Michael Douglas was cast as Hank Pym.
Say whaaaaat?
Paul Rudd is now officially set to play Scott Lang, and Douglas is in as Pym, who we can presume will be there for the purpose of inventing the suit and Pym Particles. All in all though, this is a really strange thing even factoring in Douglas’ talent and weight as an actor. Marvel’s Kevin Feige had this to say:
“With Hank Pym’s rich history in the Marvel Universe, we knew we needed an actor capable of bringing the weight and stature to the role that the character deserves.”
“We felt incredibly relieved when Michael Douglas agreed to step into the part with the charm and fortitude he brings to every character he inhabits, and couldn’t be more excited to see what he will do to bring Hank Pym to life.”
