According to Roger Friedman of Showbiz411 (via Rich Johnston), Michael Fassbender of Inglourious Basterds fame is deliberating between two different high profile Marvel Comics film roles: as Magneto in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming X-Men: First Class and as an as yet unannounced villain in Marc Webb’s Spider-Man 4. Johnston himself hypothesizes that Fassbender would be in line to play Elektro, but dismisses Kraven the Hunter as a possibility.

My take: Elektro is likely, but I still think Fassbender could make a killer Kraven. He proved he has no problem taking off weight in Steve McQueen’s Hunger, perhaps he’d have no problem adding it on. Either way you look at it, Fassbender is a quickly rising talent who managed to stand out in a brilliant cast in Basterds. I’m eager to find out which he chooses, but here’s hoping it’s Magneto. He could really do some amazing things with the role, and we know he can pull off a German accent – after all, it was developed in the shadows of the Piz Palü.

X-Men: First Class is set to be released first on June 3rd 2011, while Spider-Man 4 (or whatever they end up calling it) is coming out July 3rd 2012. Check back here for more as these respective casts begin to fill out.
