This is, quite literally, the best news.
For a Wonder Woman movie to work, it isn’t that you necessarily would need someone that is a woman (but that would help), but you’d need someone with a singular vision and a keen storytelling mind to help make it all it can be. Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment could have went a ton of different directions, but instead, they went the best direction: Michelle MacLaren will be directing and developing the “Wonder Woman” movie that is set to arrive June 23, 2017.
While you may not be familiar with her work, you really are if you remember some of the greatest episodes in favorite shows like “Breaking Bad”, “Game of Thrones” and “The Walking Dead”. The Bear and the Maiden Fair? That was her. To’hajiilee? That was her too. Hell, even “The Leftovers” and its incredible Cairo episode was her. MacLaren is one of the greatest TV directors of this era, and she will be the perfect person to direct and develop a Wonder Woman film.
Set to produce the film along with her are the usual suspects like Zach Snyder, Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder, but MacLaren apparently will be given carte blanche to make this work. She’ll be working closely with the screenwriters to bring the whole thing together, and with her abilities, I think she’s the best possible choice to make this film work.
Starring Gal Gadot as the titular hero, we’re now even more excited to see this movie come to life in 2017. Expect more news about it in the coming months, and we’ll be right here to cover it for you.
