Mignola Draws, Francavilla Covers "Hellboy" in 2011

In CBR’s latest “Hell(boy) on Earth” column, it was shared that after the upcoming “Hellboy: The Fury” with Mike Mignola writing and Duncan Fegredo drawing, that Mignola would be “tak(ing) the reins to both write and draw Hellboy’s ongoing adventures” after it.

This is obviously exciting news, because any time you have Mignola back in the seat for Hellboy art, you’re in for a treat. The thing I find most interesting though is the usage of the term “ongoing.” Will this mean no more mini-series to mini-series storytelling? Highly doubtful, as that is the Hellboy way of things, but it is an interesting usage of the word.

Sadly, that means Fegredo is off the book going forward, but who knows if he’ll return at some point in the future.

Also shared in the article is the first of four variant covers for “Hellboy: The Fury” from rising star Francesco Francavilla (which you can see above). For me, his cover offering is just outstanding. That’s a surefire cover of the week winner right there, and yet another reason why Francavilla is becoming one of the most exciting names in comic art today.

Check out the article if you missed it, as it does a great job of building up the excitement for Hellboy’s further adventures in the new year.
