Welcome to Mignolaversity, Multiversity Comics’ dedicated column for all things Mike Mignola. All the items on the list this month have been revealed already quite some time ago, so don’t expect any surprises, but still, it’s nice to get everything in one place to track what’s up ahead.

Koshchei’s sojourn through Hell intensifies! After being betrayed by Hell’s last demon, an exhausted Koshchei is ready to give up. . . But someone from his distant past appears to help him answer for his crimes and, in doing so, prepare him for his next phase of existence.

Mark Tweedale: We revealed this one last month as part of our end of year interviews. In case you missed those, you can check them out here. I like that Mignola and Stenbeck are keeping their cards very close to the vest for “Koshchei the Deathless.” I don’t know what’s ahead, but my expectations are therough the roof, especially after that spectacular first issue. (Also, apparently this year we’ll be seeing a creator-owned project from Ben Stenbeck, so keep your eyes peeled for that!)

Fritz Leiber ranks among the giants of fantasy and science fiction visionaries, capturing multiple Hugo, Nebula, and World Fantasy Awards and influencing a generation of writers.

And his most renowned creations are the swashbuckling Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser stories.

Collected here are adaptations of some of the finest of these tales—including the Hugo and Nebula Award winning “Ill Met in Lankhmar”—by comics legends Howard Chaykin, Mike Mignola, Dennis O’Neil, Al Williamson, and more. Join the hulking barbarian and the diminutive rogue as they battle swordsmen, necromancers, and flagons of strong drink!

Collects Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser and Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser: The Cloud of Hate and Other Stories.

Mark: I’ve wanted to read Mignola’s “Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser” work for a long time, though I’ve had very bad luck in tracking it down. Thankfully, Dark Horse is rereleasing it later this year in a new paperback omnibus.

YOUNG HELLBOY: ASSAULT ON CASTLE DEATH
—HARDCOVER COLLECTION—

Written by Mike Mignola and Thomas Sniegoski
Illustrated by Craig Rousseau
Colored by Chris O’Halloran
Lettered by Clem Robins

On sale June 21, 2023
Full color, 112 pages
$24.99
Hardcover, 7″ x 10″

Returned from their adventures on a secret island, Hellboy and the Professor move with the B.P.R.D. from New Mexico to Connecticut.

The relocation is tough on Hellboy: is he just homesick, or have scrambled memories from the island gripped the supernatural whippersnapper? Meanwhile, word of Hellboy’s survival has also reached an unknown enemy, who failed to kill him once before but is determined not be foiled again. . .

Join Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and cowriter Thomas Sniegoski, with artist Craig Rousseau and colorist Chris O’Halloran for the second volume of the Young Hellboy series.

Collects Young Hellboy: Assault on Castle Death #1–#4 and bonus material.

Mark: The fourth issue should be out February 1. If you’d like to see a preview, head over to AIPT. And with luck, I’m hoping we’ll be seeing more “Young Hellboy” real soon—Thomas Sniegoski certainly seems to be hinting that’s the case anyway. . .
