Welcome to Mignolaversity, Multiversity Comics’ dedicated column for all things Mike Mignola. This month’s cover artists are Christopher Mitten, Jesse Lonergan, Laurence Campbell, Elsa Charretier, and Mike Mignola. Enjoy!

One-shot

Hellboy, Professor Bruttenholm, and B.P.R.D. agent Archie Muraro investigate an abandoned sawmill that is rumored to be haunted. But when they get there, an unexpected discovery reveals an even stranger source for the rumors! Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and longtime collaborator Chris Roberson team up with artist Mike Norton and colorist Lee Loughridge for a new story of strange doings.

Mark Tweedale: Previously solicited for June last year, we’ve now got a concrete date for the final issue of “Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1957.” I must admit, admit this point I’m really eager to get back into the Occult Cold War plotline, so hopefully we’ll get an announcement of the first 1960s story soon. As for this issue, I’m really looking forward to seeing Mike Norton back on the title. He’s great with the 1950s cast, and I like his take on Archie and I’m looking forward to seeing him on the page with Hellboy again.

Hyperborea is burning, torn asunder by the fury of the first angel. As the city falls, Anum Yassa’s and Miss Truesdale’s lives intertwine, and they are drawn to face their destinies and the wrath of gods.

Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and artist Jesse Lonergan bring the third installment of a new tale of ancient Hyperborea!

Mark: This first issue isn’t out yet, so there’s not a lot I can say here. There’s a lot I’d like to say though. I must say, I am very happy to see Elsa Charretier doing a variant cover. Hopefully one day she’ll do some interiors in this universe too. . .

PANYA: THE MUMMY’S CURSE #1 (of 4)

Miniseries

Thousands of years before Hellboy, the B.P.R.D., and Ragna Rok, there was Panya. As a girl in ancient Egypt, she witnessed the fall of a dynasty and was gifted—or cursed—with visions of the beginning, the end, and the coming of the dragon. . .

Mike Mignola and Chris Roberson join creative forces with artist Christopher Mitten and colorist Michelle Madsen to bring Panya’s story to life.

Mark: I’ve been waiting for this for five years now! I’m pretty sure some of you guessed a Panya series was on the way after the teaser in 2018’s “Witchfinder: The Gates of Heaven” #3. I can’t wait to see what Chris Roberson and Christopher Mitten are cooking up here—I always enjoy their collaborations.

Now, let’s move on to the collections coming in September. . .

Finally, a physical format to fit the scope of the saga!

Brought together by Hellboy creator Mike Mignola and Dark Horse Books in one giant-sized 1500+ page tome, experience the main Hellboy story in the largest format ever as he and the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense confront things that lurk in the shadows.

Collects all the stories and graphic novels contained in Hellboy Omnibus Volumes 1-4:
Seed of Destruction, Wake the Devil, and “The Wolves of St August,” “The Chained Coffin,” and “Almost Colossus,” from The Chained Coffin and The Right Hand of Doom.
Conqueror Worm, Strange Places, Into the Silent Sea, and “The Right Hand of Doom, “Box Full of Evil,” and “Being Human” from The Right Hand of Doom and B.P.R.D.: Being Human.
Darkness Calls, The Wild Hunt, and The Storm and the Fury, and the short story “The Mole.”
Hellboy in Hell Volumes 1-2, “The Magician and the Snake”, and “The Exorcist of Vorsk.”

With a brand new cover by Mike Mignola!

Mark: Just the other day, I had to move a bunch of my “Hellboy” library editions around. All seven together are pretty damn heavy, so I can pretty vividly imagine how heavy this book is gonna be. This is definitely marketed toward the kind of reader that likes to know that if they are unexpectedly attacked while reading, they effectively have a killer weapon against whatever monster is stupid enough to cross their path.

Finally, there are two other Mignola titles outside the usual offers from Dark Horse. The first is a new Outerverse short story, ‘Liberté,’ from Christopher Golden, Bridgit Connell, and Michelle Madsen, which will be part of Trina Robbins’ “Won’t Back Down” anthology. The book is raising money Planned Parenthood over on Zoop. The other item is a new Hellboy prose short story in Weird Tales #367, coming out May 2023.

Mike Mignola and Duncan Fegredo’s “Giant Robot Hellboy” wraps up with a bang (or should I say boom?) in this final issue as we finally meet the true titular character. And yet this story leaves a lot of dangling threads. This is clearly the beginning of something much bigger. As usual, this being a review […]
