Usually I’d welcome you to the latest news update, but I’m not doing the news this month. My heart wasn’t really in it. Don’t worry, we’ll still be showing the solicitations for January, but before we get to that, I want to pay tribute to Kees Lagerweij.

Those of you that used to be on the old Dark Horse Hellboy forum back in the early 2000s would probably know him. You’d also know him from the CBR Hellboy forums, or perhaps the recent Mike Mignola’s Art fan page on Facebook. If you listen to the Hellboy Book Club podcast you’ve certainly heard his name. He would regularly write in.

Kees was always an active fan in the Hellboy Universe community, and always ready to welcome newcomers. When I was first getting into the comics, he was one of those helpful fans that showed me the ropes. Before Mignolaversity’s Hellboy Universe Reading Order, I created a rudimentary publishing order list back 2009. Kees helped me put it together.

He helped a lot of people. He was always engaged in growing the community around these comics in positive ways. Just check in on those fan communities I mentioned above and you can see he had an impact on us.

    Kees, you will be missed.
