Welcome to Mignolaversity, Multiversity Comics’ home for all things Mike Mignola. It’s been a while since we’ve been able to run these solicitations and it’s great to be back. There’s no surprises here, but I’m just happy to be talking about these books again. It’s been far too long and I’ve missed them! So let’s dive into the solicitations for March 2021. And let me know your thoughts in the comments.

Mike Mignola! Tom Sniegoski!
YOUNG HELLBOY: THE HIDDEN LAND #2 (of 4)

Variant cover by Rachele Aragno

Written by Mike Mignola and Tom Sniegoski
Illustrated by Craig Rousseau
Colored by Dave Stewart
Lettered by Clem Robins

On sale March 17, 2021
FC, 32 pages
$3.99
Miniseries

After meeting a missing adventurer and being taken in by the island’s Ohnar people, Hellboy and Professor Bruttenholm delve deeper into the strange island’s mysteries. Exploring a previous civilization’s ruins reveals more about local history. . . and grabs the attention of some gruesome foes!

Young Hellboy’s adventure continues, from Mike Mignola with writer Tom Sniegoski, artist Craig Rousseau, and colorist Dave Stewart!

Mark Tweedale: In case you missed the announcement for “Young Hellboy,” you can read it here, and you can preview Craig Rousseau’s interiors here. This isn’t Tom Sniegoski’s first Mike Mignola book. He previously worked on “B.P.R.D.: Hollow Earth” and the prose novels Lobster Johnson: The Satan Factory and Grim Death and Bill the Electrocuted Criminal. Especially in the latter two, you get a real sense of what he could bring to “Young Hellboy.” It’s such an audacious pitch for a series, with two-year-old Hellboy seemingly taking on an adventure stranger than many he’d have later in his career as a paranormal investigator. I’m sold on it already. I don’t know who Scarlett Santiago, the Sky Devil, is but I definitely want to find out.

LADY BALTIMORE: THE WITCH QUEENS #1 (of 5)

Written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden
Illustrated by Bridgit Connell
Colored by Michelle Madsen
Lettered by Clem Robins

On sale March 24, 2021
FC, 32 pages
$3.99
Miniseries

Once she was Sofia Valk, living in a village overrun by evil. In time she became Lord Baltimore’s most trusted ally. Now, more than a decade after his death, Europe has erupted with the early battles of World War 2 and dark forces are rising again. With witches, vampires, and Nazis on the march, Sofia must embrace the title of Lady Baltimore! But can she fight monsters without becoming a monster herself? Horror genius writing team Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden reunite, with stellar art by Bridgit Connell and colors by Michelle Madsen as they return readers to the world of Baltimore.

MT: Like so many books, “Lady Baltimore: The Witch Queens” suffered delays thanks to the pandemic, so I’m happy to finally see this resolicited. I feel like I’ve been anticipating this one forever and I can’t wait for everyone to read it. It’s the third series set in Mignola and Golden’s Outerverse (alongside “Baltimore” and “Joe Golem”) and it’s just the tip of the iceberg. Hopefully we’ll have more news for you soon! In the meantime, you can read our interview with Christopher Golden about the series here and my Hell Notes about Sofia Valk here.

We’ve got “B.P.R.D.: The Devil You Know” in March, “Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: 1952–1954” in May, and “Hellboy Universe: The Secret Histories” in June. And with luck, maybe we’ll get “Sir Edward Grey: Witchfinder – Volume 2” before 2021 is done. (I hope I didn’t just jinx it. . .)

    Mignolaversity: “Giant Robot Hellboy” #3

    By | Jan 3, 2024 | Reviews

Mike Mignola and Duncan Fegredo’s “Giant Robot Hellboy” wraps up with a bang (or should I say boom?) in this final issue as we finally meet the true titular character. And yet this story leaves a lot of dangling threads. This is clearly the beginning of something much bigger. As usual, this being a review […]
