Welcome to Mignolaversity, Multiversity Comics’ dedicated column for all things Mike Mignola. We’ve got an early look at the October solicitations for Mike Mignola’s books. It’s a light month with only a single issue, but I feel like the comic that we are getting is a very exciting one.

Illustrated by Christopher Mitten and Ben Stenbeck
Colored by Michelle Madsen
Lettered by Clem Robins

On sale October 27, 2021

$3.99
Miniseries

Hellboy learns about the mysteries of an exorcism gone wrong and more when his occult investigator relative reveals secretive and perilous adventures of one of the Hellboy Universe’s most mysterious societies! Silver Lantern Club member Simon Bruttenholm relates a tale from the dawn of radio, in which Sir Edward Grey and Sarah Jewel go toe to toe with. . . technology?

Mike Mignola and Chris Roberson expand the Hellboy universe with a new tale of strange spiritual happenings. They’re joined by artists Ben Stenbeck and Christopher Mitten, with colors by Michelle Madsen.

Mark: I assume you’ve already seen the news on Bloody Disgusting. (If not, check it out here.) Anyway, the point is, the Silver Lantern Club! The Silver Lantern Club! Oh my god, at last! I’ve been waiting for this since I first heard whispers of it on the old Dark Horse forums in the around the mid ’00s. This means we’ll be getting more Sir Edward Grey and more Sarah Jewell, plus a whole bunch of new characters (and possibly some other familiar faces from “Witchfinder”).

I love the idea of introducing the Silver Lantern Club through tales told to Hellboy when he visited the old pub in White Chapel—an event previously mentioned in “Hellboy in Hell” #4. It feels very proper to bring it full circle.

From “Hellboy in Hell” #4

Ben Stenbeck will be drawing the framing sequence with Simon Bruttenholm and Christopher Mitten will be drawing the stuff with the Silver Lantern Club members. . . That’s right, Mitten’s back drawing Sir Edward again! This is going to be bloody fantastic.

THE AMAZING SCREW-ON HEAD
AND OTHER CURIOUS OBJECTS

Written and illustrated by Mike Mignola
Colored by Dave Stewart
Lettered by Pat Brosseau and Clem Robins

On sale December 1, 2021
Full color, 104 pages
$19.99
Trade paperback, 7″ x 10″

When Emperor Zombie threatens the safety of all life on earth, President Lincoln enlists the aid of a mechanical head. With the help of associates Mr. Groin (a faithful manservant) and Mr. Dog (a dog), Screw-On Head must brave ancient tombs, a Victorian flying apparatus, and demons from a dimension inside a turnip. This beloved collection of oddball Mignola creations also includes “The Magician and the Snake” from Dark Horse Maverick: Happy Endings, and nearly fifty pages of additional material, available now for the first time in paperback!

“Mignola always has a way of meshing the eccentrically creative with the quietly brilliant in the most memorable way possible.” —Mignolaversity

Mark: Hey look, that’s James’s comment from our review. I know a lot of people missed out on the hardcover edition of this, so I’m glad there’s a paperback edition of this coming out now. It’s a classic, after all, one of the best things Mignola has ever done and it should be on every fan’s shelf.

And yet this story leaves a lot of dangling threads. This is clearly the beginning of something much bigger. As usual, this being a review […]
