Marvel has announced that Moon Girl will team up with some of the 616 universe’s biggest heroes, starting with the Ultimate Spider-Man. “Miles Morales and Moon Girl” #1 will be the first in a series of one-shots featuring Lunella Lafayette (and her trusty Devil Dinosaur) partnering with another character from the House of Ideas’ lineup. Author Mohale Mashigo will handle writing duties, while “Ghost-Spider’s” Ig Guara provides art.
“Writing Moon Girl is a dream come true,” Mashigo says of the project. “Lunella is fun, quirky, smart and full of energy. I’ve enjoyed seeing her get out of her comfort zone and shine even brighter.”
Mashigo is an award-winning musician and author from South Africa. Her 2013 album Invincible Summer (produced under the name “Black Porcelain”) received two Wawela Music Awards. Her 2016 debut novel The Yearning would go on to win that year’s University of Johannesburg Prize for South African Debut Writing, and make the Dublin Literary Awards’ 2018 longlist. She has previously worked with Marvel providing stories for “United States of Captain America” (‘Hometown Hero’ in issue #2), and “Marvel Legacy: Voices” (‘Decompression’).
Brazilian artist Ig Guara has worked with Marvel on books such as “Ghost Spider,” “King in Black: Gwenom vs. Carnage,” and “Lockjaw and the Pet Avengers Unleashed.” Most recently his art can be seen in the event tie-in “Death of Doctor Strange: Bloodstone.”
“Miles Morales and Moon Girl” #1 is due on June 1 of this year, and will feature covers from Alitha Martinez and Peach Momoko. Its release will coincide with the upcoming animated series Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur, premiering on Disney Channel this summer.
