Comic book heavyweights Frank Miller and Rafael Grampa will team for “The Golden Child,” as revealed by Miller while speaking on a panel in London over the weekend. “The Golden Child” will chronicle the exploits of siblings Lara and Jonathan, the superpowered offspring of Miller’s alternate universe Superman and Wonder Woman.

Lara was introduced in the 2001 series “The Dark Knight Strikes Again,” the sequel to Miller’s seminal “The Dark Knight Returns.” The newborn Jonathan was introduced in the follow-up “The Dark Knight III: The Master Race,” which ran for nine issues from November of 2015 until June of last year, bringing Brian Azzarello and Andy Kubert into DC’s Dark Knight Universe (Earth-31). The children were last seen in Metropolis attempting to acclimate to the double-life of their father, Kal-El.

“The Golden Child” announcement should come as no surprise for those who have been following the social media accounts of Rafael Grampa, having previously shared pictures of himself and Frank Miller in New York on Instagram and Twitter in 2017. Grampa has also mentioned his love of Miller various times when asked to elaborate on key influences by fans, even sharing the stage with Miller at Brazil’s 2016 Comic-Con Experience. Rafael Grampa is no stranger to Batman either, with a deep passion for The Caped Crusader that has been vividly rendered across numerous variant covers and commissions (all handily aggregated at this link on Grampa’s Instagram), and illustrated a sequence in 2013’s “Batman: Black and White Volume Two.” The much-ballyhooed Brazilian artist first generated mainstream buzz with a “Hellblazer” short in issue #250 penned (ironically enough) by Brian Azzarello.

“The Golden Child” will be released sometime in 2019.
