Writer Brandon Easton (“Shadowlaw,” ThunderCats) is bringing Mister Miracle out of ‘Future State’ and into the ‘Infinite Frontier’ alongside artist Fico Ossio (“No One Left to Fight,” “Marvel Action: Spider-Man”) in “Mister Miracle: The Source of Freedom,” a six-issue miniseries beginning this May at DC Comics.

“The series will explore Shilo’s dealings with the trappings of celebrity, his understanding of the ‘Mister Miracle’ identity and his possible connection to the New Gods,” said Easton. “We’ll also dive into what it means to be a Black superhero in a world where his heroism is in conflict with a society full of distrust and suspicion.”

DC describes the series as taking place at the peak of Shilo’s popularity, with his stage show buckling under the expectations of his fans right as a competitor looks to take him off the board.

“This series functions as a de facto origin story and a reintroduction of Shilo Norman,” Easton elaborated. “Fico and I have a fantastic opportunity to establish him as a major hero in the DC pantheon, while making him a more complex character.”

Shilo Norman is the third Mister Miracle chronologically, following on from stage performer Thaddeus Brown, and New God Scott Free, who was Shilo’s mentor in Jack Kirby’s original “Mister Miracle” series. Easton is currently collaborating with artist Valentine De Landro on a Mister Miracle story in “Future State: Superman: Worlds at War.”

“Mister Miracle: The Source of Freedom” #1 releases May 4 with a cover by Yanick Paquette and card-stock variant from Valentine De Landro. Check below for a five-page pencilled preview and a look at Ossio’s concept art for the character.
