It’s about time, right? For Monkeybrain’s whole existence, there have been so few comics ABOUT monkeys! I mean, one of them saves the world and that’s good, but where are the action monkey heroes of tomorrow?

Well, I am proud to tell you now that, spinning out of the successful Mini Comics Included Kickstarter, Michael Moreci, Steve Seeley, Kyle Latino and Jordan Gibson are bringing “Prime-8’s” to the digital publisher to put the Monkey in Monkeybrain. (And other monkey jokes I could make.)

Telling the story of 8 different anthropomorphic, the PRIME-8’s are (via the description from Kickstarter, which does more justice to the concept than I would without it) “a fighting force of super-powered monkeys sworn to protect the Earth from mad scientists, hyper-evolved animals, and intergalactic threats. When they are called into action—to Las Vegas—after secret NASA documents are stolen, what they discover is a Cold War plot involving samurai, a cyborg bear, and more!”

The book was originally illustrated by Brent Schoonover for the Kickstarter, and those of you who received your mini-comics already will know that this was assuredly a stand-out. Seeing the concept evolve and turn into a Monkeybrain ongoing just feels right, like the way peanut butter and jelly feels right in a sandwich — but now with more monkeys.

And believe you me, even Gwen Stafani would be all about this shit.*

Take a look at your cast in 8 teasers below:

“Prime-8’s” will be available for pre-sale tomorrow.

(*If that reference makes no sense, then I officially feel old.)

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
