Thor #607 variant

Yo, we heard you liked Deadpool, so we put some Deadpool in your Deadpool so you could Deadpool while you Deadpool.

All through February, certain Marvel titles will be getting their own Deadpool variants. Quoth the raven, “You’d be surprised how hard it is to keep a character who’s aware that he’s in a comic in his own comic. That might be the reason Deadpool can now be found on the variant covers to books he has absolutely nothing to do with,” reads Diamond’s announcement.

This is very similar to the whole Wolverine Art Appreciation month Marvel did a while ago, though if it’s better or not would be up to you. I’ve gotta say though – some of these covers really are hilarious, even if I think Deadpool’s humorous side is a bit overplayed. To be quite honest, if I saw that Thor variant at the top of this post in a store, I’d buy it. There are several in here that are actually quit hilarious. The Hercules one, for example. Mighty Avengers too. I’m sure these will be a big hit with the kids.

This whole thing did get me thinking though: after the Wolverine Art Appreciation month, Marvel died down a bit with it’s Wolverine-ness. Sure, we still have three on-going titles with the word “Wolverine” in it, and he is in every book, but the constant in your face attitude of the character died down. Does that mean the Heroic Age means Deadpool-mania will finally come to end?! I mean.. he’s not a hero… only time will tell.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
