Grant Morrison has been largely absent in the last year from the DC Comics world, focusing on the television and movie world and his duties at Heavy Metal. Howver, at the “Meet the DC Comics Publishers” Panel this afternoon at SDCC, Morrison became front and center as DC Co-Publishers Dan DiDio and Jim Lee invited him on stage and it was revealed that a sequel to “Wonder Woman: Earth One” and also his graphic novel “Arkham Asylum A Serious House on Serious Earth” are in the works.
The first “Wonder Woman: Earth One” graphic novel came out as part of DC’s Earth One imprint early last year and is the latest entry in that line, although a “Green Lantern: Earth One” was recently announced. Morrison’s take on Wonder Woman, he said was very much in the vein of creator William Moulton Marston and his ideas of femininity, submission, and bondage. This new story, Morrison said is “is like Empire Strikes Back. This is her biggest story yet.” Morrison said the plot involves a “Nazi Superwoman” invading Paradise Island and will a part of a trilogy of Earth One OGNs. Yanick Paquette and Nathan Fairburn provided art on the first book and Paquette confirmed on Twitter he’s returning for the next two books.
Morrison then announced an “Arkham Asylum 2” with artist Chris Burnham who Morrison has collaborated with on “Batman Incorporated” and “Nameless.” This story is a 120 page graphic novel set in the “Batman” #666 alternate world which features Damian Wayne as a future Batman. The original “Arkham Asylum” was published in 1989 and featured artwork by Dave McKean and was the basis for the Batman: Arkham Asylum video game.
No release dates for either were given, but look for more info as it arrives, and check out some preview pages for “Wonder Woman: Earth One” Volume two below!
