Dark Horse Comics have announced writers Christopher Golden & Tim Lebbon, and artist Peter Bergting will reteam for “Mortal Terror,” a four-issue series inspired by Dracula. Colored by Chris O’Halloran with lettering by Clem Robins, the book will reimagine Jonathan Harker, Lucy Westenra, and Mina Murray as vampires living in an underground version of London, protecting the city safe from the mortals their society believes to be a myth. When the “mysterious” Count Dracula appears, “they are on their own to keep their city eternally dead.”

The book marks the second collaboration for Golden, Lebbon, and Bergting, who previously teamed up on the horror novella Festival, published by Dark Horse Books late last year; Golden and Bergting also reimagined another gothic horror icon, Frankenstein’s Monster, for the Hellboy Universe spin-off “Frankenstein: New World.” Incidentally, Hellboy creator Mike Mignola — who is no stranger to Dracula himself, having illustrated the official comic of the Francis Ford Coppola movie — will provide a variant cover for the first issue of “Mortal Terror.”

The series also caps off a resurgence for Dracula this year, who returned to the big screen in both Renfield and The Last Voyage of the Demeter. In addition to “Night Terror,” the character will make his comics comeback in Skybound’s “Universal Monsters: Dracula,” an adaptation of the original Bela Lugosi film, scripted by James Tynion IV with art by Martin Simmonds, starting October 25. Additionally, Dark Horse have announced “The Midnite Show,” a miniseries by Cullen Bunn and Brian Hurtt inspired by the cinematic universe Dracula began, which will begin October 4.

In the meantime, you can check out the whole press release, and Mignola’s variant cover, at DarkHorse.com. “Mortal Terror” #1 will retail for $4.99 on November 22, 2023.
