Oh em gee, you guys, it’s the movie round-up. There’s some fun stuff this week, and there is a large amount of snarky commentary from yours truly. I mean, a LOT of snarky commentary. But it’s a pretty good week with some interesting news, and in case you haven’t been following, this makes a good source to see it all at once, especially on Saturday so you can sit and watch some videos. Yeah. There are videos. Check it out.
So you know that Kick Ass movie that I consistently bash without having actually seen (remember: I read the screenplay). Well, they’re putting out a book to help cash-in on the movie in a similar way to 300, Watchmen, and The Dark Knight. The book features artwork from Kick-Ass co-creator John Romita Jr and designs for the movie which show how John Romita Jr has contributed in making the movie something I will greatly dislike! Such a shame, such a shame. Never the less, here are some images from the book courtesy of Titan Books courtesy of Splash Page at MTV.
Speaking of the Kick-Ass film adaptation, want to see the new movie poster?
Ugh. The new poster, which features Nic Cage all ready to be Big Daddy (who, ya know, actually looks like this) debuted over at UGO.com, along with the video clip below, which originally premiered at SDCC this year.
Not going to lie – as accurate as this scene may or may not be towards its original comic book existence, it still doesn’t stop Nic Cage for absolutely ruining this for me.
Could be worse. Mark Wahlberg could’ve been Big Daddy. Seriously.
Oh, and here’s another:
Over at Splash Page, they recently had an interview with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law in preparation for their new film, Sherlock Holmes. Of course some questions were asked in regards to Iron Man 2, The Avengers, and the futures of the franchise. While RDJ was fairly quiet on the subject, he did say one neat line: “I’m just thinking about trying to make the best version we can of the next installment. And when it comes to Iron Man 3 or The Avengers, I honestly could not care less about that right now.” Fair enough, Robbie. Also, did you know Jude Law has a Rorschach tattoo? Yeah. Neither did I. Weird.

Speaking of Iron Man 2, that actress I don’t like in that role I DO like has spoken up about the future of the role. And by the pronoun games I really mean Scarlett Johansson has talked about currently playing, as well as the future of, the Black Widow in the Marvel movies. In an interview with the Daily Record, Johansson said “I thought it would be a little bit daunting, especially because I came into the project as a huge fan of the first movie.” And when asked about returning for The Avengers she said, “I hope it will happen. I don’t know if that’s where it’s going go but she’s definitely a big part of the Avengers.” I for one hope she doesn’t come back. Mainly because she’s not a big part of the Avengers. Well, maybe the Ultimate version, but not the real thing. Or am I mistaken?
As one more note on the Iron Man 2 front, we’ve got some new pictures. They don’t show much of anything, but still. Enjoy:
Continued belowOh, and did yo see that Iron Man 2 trailer? Yeah! THAT happened! Also, Robert Downey Jr says that Sherlock Holmes could kick Iron Man’s ass. Are you gonna take that, Stark?
Speaking of Sherlock Holmes, did you know that Guy Ritchie is going to direct a DC movie? Do you know what movie it is? I do, and I can’t believe it. According to an exclusive interview over at Splash Page, Guy Ritchie will be developing a bonafide Lobo movie. Yeah. Lobo. Really? NO NOT REALLY LOL. So Guy Ritche has been TALKED to about Lobo, but it’s not a done deal. I hope it’s not a done deal. A Lobo film? Nooottt really necessary. Let’s do that Green Arrow/Super Max film thingie.
Just because it happened, I feel I should show it: James Cameron, the guy who just made Avatar (which is getting SUCH rave reviews… (internet sarcasm)), thinks there are “too many superhero movies right now.” He also states the only movie he’d ever have interest in making is a Spider-Man film. Kay. Well, he good folks at io9 have a nice in-depth look at what exactly that could’ve meant. Pretty lol-worthy if you ask me.
So how about that 300 prequel? Or sequel? Or … whatever it was that just shouldn’t exist at all. Wanna hear something about it? Ok. Well, since Frank Miller hasn’t decided that he’s ruined his career enough, he’s recently “announced” that the prequel is done, and it is title… wait for it… Xerxes. Yup. It takes place 10 years before 300 and is apparently about the Battle of Marathon. Zack Snyder has already expressed interest in directing, so expect more shirtless men with washboard abs screaming a lot for our entertainment. THIS! IS! COMMERCIALISM! … or any number of screaming parodies.
So how about that Thor movie? Do you know who wrote it? They go by the names of Ashley Edward Miller and Zack Stentz. They’ve recently penned ANOTHER comic adaptation, and it’s of a book I’ve only mildly heard about! It’s called Damn Nation (get it?) and it’s about vampires. In the future! Ooo! I may sound a bit catty, but over all it doesn’t interest me so far. However, it’s from the good folks over at Dark Horse Entertainment, and I think they’re folks to trust. According to the Hollywood Reporter, it’s set in a U.S. evacuated after an attack from “inhuman nocturnal predators,” the comic tells the tale of the survivors after the government has been forced to relocate to London while scientists search for a solution. Could be an interesting film. Mildly I Am Legend-ish? Maybe? Who knows.

Speaking of Thor ever hear of a bloke called Joseph Gatt? He’s kinda creepy looking, don’t you think? At the very least he looks ridiculously intimidating. I believe he was the model for Kratos (or something along those lines). He hasn’t been in a lot of movies, but according to his own website, he has a “prominent” and “secret” role in Thor. Huh. What could that be? No, seriously, I have no clue.
That’s not all. Rene Russo, who you might remember from such hits as The Adventures of Rocky and Bulwinkle and Mr. Destiny, has been cast as Frigga, Thor’s mom. That means she’ll be tapping Anthony Hopkins on screen. Not too shabby.
A while ago, we had an article about how Scott Pilgrim could possibly be the best comic movie ever. Well, here’s a glimpse at that possibility, in a photo taken by Edgar Wright himself.
I’m very excited about this. Very excited.
So here’s something I thought was fairly interesting. Remember when the Wolverine workprint leaked, and everyone was like “WAAAHHH???” and all the internet websites were like “Hey, this is news, lets report it! YO, INTERNET! YOU CAN DOWNLOAD WOLVERINE NOW! BUT DON’T DO IT IT’S ILLEGAL LOL.” And then the guy who did it was never caught? Remember that? YEAH, GUESS AGAIN.
Gilberto Sanchez, 47, was arrested in the Bronx, N.Y., early Wednesday morning by FBI agents without incident, law enforcement sources told CNET. A spokeswoman from the FBI’s Los Angeles field office, which led the investigation, confirmed the arrest.
If convicted, Sanchez faces up to three years in prison and a $250,000 fine, or twice the gross gain or gross loss attributable to the offense, whichever is greater
Personally, I’m psyched about this. That was a pretty low thing to do. Always has been, always will be. The fact that no one was ever held responsible always irked me, too. While Sanchez is innocent until proven guilty, I hope that this is the right guy. I think it’d be a good message for studios to send. It’d be like, “Hey, ok, our movie still did well at the box office, but you know what? You’re still a dick!” I approve.
The internet was all abuzz with some exciting (to some people) news: Bryan Singer is returning to the X universe for X-Men: First Class, the oft rumored prequel to the X-Men trilogy. While I would rather have Magneto made, I am fairly interested. Although, I would like to mention: I saw Superman Returns, and I know Valkyrie happened too. Personally? Not that thrilled about this. Buuuuut whatever. That’s just me. The movie will be about the original five X-Men: Angel, Iceman, Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Beast. However, don’t expect old faces to return. The most you might see is the kid from X-Men Origins who played Cyclops. We’ll see.

Once again, the internet has been abuzz with Spider-Man 4 rumors. Fights at the studio, nobody likes Raimi’s proposals, blah blah blah. I’m going to mention it here, but I’m not going to dignify it with a legit post. Just know that this is happening people – Spider-Man 4 hasn’t begun filming and ALREADY the internet is trying to ruin it!
October 22, 2010. Remember this date. You know why? Because that’s the day Helen Mirren will brandish a sniper rifle.

Joe Quesada did a little talk about comic book movies for Marvel. He stated that he believed the reason the public is taking the upcoming Marvel movies so well, especially the intense positive reaction to the Iron Man 2 trailer, is because these comic book movies have comic book creators heavily involved in them. He and Brian Michael Bendis have sat in for meetings about Thor, Iron Man 2, and Captain America, and their input as writers and top degree knowledge factories on the subject really helps to make the films better for fans and the average movie going public. I’d agree.
