Hey, kids! Do you like movies! Of course you do! So welcome to another movie round-up! Not as good as last week’s but still some interesting tidbits in there. We’ve got the best and the worst from all around the internet, so enjoy it, all behind the cut!

Do you plan to see Thor? Of course you do. We all do. Marvel’s new set of films look to be beyond great. Well, I hope you didn’t think Stan Lee WOULDN’T show up in the latest Marvel hit. For more on this, I turn it over to you, Stan:

Thanks Stan!

Do you plan to see Scott Pilgrim? Of course you do. We all do. Well, some people have already seen it! Such as Greg Motolla, director of Adventureland and Superbad. He’s seen the latest cut of the film, and had this to say about it:

Be very jealous of me. I’ve seen an entire cut of SCOTT PILGRIM VS. THE WORLD. Edgar Wright has made a classic (again)! It’s amazing. … I would say that Scott Pilgrim is the wittiest action movie you’ll ever see, but that’s just the half of it. … Needless to say, Michael Cera is perfect. In fact, every single performance is incredible. You’ve got something special to look forward to. … The filmmaking is so insanely good, I retired halfway through the movie. (looking forward to the pension checks, tho)

Thanks Greg! Now I want to see it even MORE.

MTV Splash Page talked to Michael Cera about the Scott Pilgrim movie. In a super surprise to me, it turns out Pilgrim is very well versed in the Pilgrim lore. In fact, Cera is a huge fan of it.

“I read them before there was even a movie. There were only a few out. There were only like two out at the time, but yeah, I loved them. They’re so great,” said Cera. “There’s five out now and the sixth one is going to come out soon, I think, but yeah, they’re amazing.”

How about that! I guess I shouldn’t be THAT surprised, but I think if anything that makes the idea of the movie even better because the main character is played by someone who read the book “back in the day.” I approve of this.

Remember that awesome Grant Morrison movie I posted clips of last time? Now there’s a trailer! AND IT LOOKS EVEN BETTER THAN IT DID BEFORE. Why? Because not only is it Morrison, but you’ve got Jason Aaron, Mark Waid, Matt Fraction, and Geoff Johns in it. God damn. Can you say nerdgasm?

The film, Grant Morrison: Talking With Gods, is directed by Patrick Meaney and can’t come out soon enough.

Now onto some Ryan Reynolds fun time! We’ve all been gushing about how excited we are over Green Lantern, but we’ve been forgetting about Deadpool (probably because of the comics). Splash Page talked to Reynolds about how the project is coming along, and he had this to say:

“I think at this point everyone’s just focused on getting the right script and the right tone and the right writer involved and I think from there, the world’s your oyster,” explained Reynolds of the film’s current status. “If you get that right, you’re going to get an amazing director.”

He also says he wants Tarantino to direct. Didn’t he hear Tarantino was already offered Green Lantern? Good luck, Reynolds.

Other than that, what else has been going on with Deadpool? Well, not a lot. They’re still really working on the script, and Reynolds says he’s not even tried on! Gosh darn Green Lantern…

“You want to find the best version of what’s in the comic books, but like a lot of [characters], Deadpool has one of the more inconsistent narratives,” he told MTV News. “It’s tough, because the series has been dropped and reopened so many times. You really have to pick and choose so many of the best elements and cobble those together and create the movie of your dreams.”

“Oddly enough, I think the suit is the easiest task, ” he added. “It’s such a cool-looking suit, too. It’s just deciding on the material and stuff, but that comes into play once you get a script.”

But what does the actor have to say about the differences between playing Deadpool and Green Lantern?

“There’s such a vast difference between the characters, and I think people forget that I’m an actor,” said Reynolds. “These are roles that just happened to fall under the umbrella of the comic book universe.”

“I think there was some concern that I would make Green Lantern some kind of wise-cracking Wade Wilson-type, and that’s not the case at all,” he explained. “If that’s what they wanted, why would I have screen-tested for the movie?”

We’ll see, Reynolds… we’ll see. You’re lucky I liked you in Blade: Trinity. That and all those other movies you were in.

Yet another comic book has been optioned! I’m afraid I know nothing about it at all, though. So instead I will allow the Hollywood Reporter to explain it to you:

Scarlet Fire Entertainment is set to produce a film adaptation of Brit scribe Adam Hamdy’s comic, “The Hunter.” Hamdy will adapt the screenplay.

The 2007 Dare Comics debut release is a contemporary superhero comic set against the backdrop of organized crime. Through print and online distribution, “Hunter” has reached 130,000 readers.

Hamdy will produce along with Scarlet Fire’s Steven Pearl and Allan Loeb, the co-writer of “21” and “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps.” Scarlet Fire exec Shane Abrahams first brought the comic to the company.

While I don’t know much about The Hunter, I do like that image. So there’s that.

Morgan Freeman was recently asked about the next Batman. And guess what he said? NOT MUCH!

“I know–I just know–that Chris is working on number three,” Morgan Freeman told MTV News. “He couldn’t possibly not be.”

Queue a bunch of nerds taking those words apart to prove, once and for all, that Megan Fox will be Catwoman.

Oh, so did you hear about this? There’s a new Iron Man 2 poster! It debuted over at Apple. Check this out:

Nice, eh? My only real complaint is… I mean, is that it? In the comics, he looks a bit more interesting than just that. I’m going to go ahead and assume that’s not all we’re going to see of him, but even so. I dunno. Either way, EXCITED!

source

Oh, and then there’s this “ARG” thing the internet is buzzing about curiously. I mean, we’re not quite sure what it is, but over at Superhero Hype, a “clue” was released. What kind of clue? I don’t quite know. But if you’re into the ARG scene, this might be a place for you to look.

Want to discuss some MAYBE casting choices for future Marvel movies? Ok, how about the INCREDIBLY unlikely duo of Zachary Levi (from Chuck) and Kellan Lutz (from Twilight), two actors who want to play Captain America but, to be honest, have no chance in Hell. I love Zach Levi, don’t get me wrong, but Captain America? Maybe if Captain America was a nebbish Jew figure from beginning to end. Levi did want a role in Thor, but his duties on Chuck kept him from doing so. And Kellan Lutz? Ugh.

Remember when I said last time that I’m not really good with film company mumbo jumbo talk? Yeah. Well. Disney said that even though they now have all of Marvel’s properties, they’re ok with Sony having Spider-Man still. Why? I have no clue, but if you want to know more, check this out.

source

In a bit of news that I couldn’t possibly care about, but wanted to be nice and share anyway: Matt Damon could have been Two Face. Yeah. Thank God that didn’t happen, am I right, guys? Yeah. Matt Damon!

Remember last time when I was talking about how Red would be different than Red? Well, your good pal Warren Ellis is here to tell you what is going to be different and why. To a point, anyway.

RED, the book, is 66 pages long. If you were to film 66 pages of comics, you might, might just about get 40 minutes of film out of it. If you added a musical number. The comics-page to film-minute ratio is pretty bad. A straight adaptation of a 150-page graphic novel might, if you squint at it, get you a 100-minute film. But it’s unlikely, because comics and films use time so differently. One page with four lines of dialogue on it can be slowed to a crawl to the point where you have to spend several minutes digesting the information on it. In film, however, four lines of dialogue is four lines of dialogue, and you can’t just pronounce it very slowly for the same time consumption. Beyond filmic/dramatic effects like the pause or montage or whatever, film is timelocked.

For more, check out Ellis’ blog. There’s a LOT there to read, but the long and short of it? Here’s the last sentence: “I mean, if you don’t want to see a film with Helen Mirren with a sniper rifle, I’m not sure I want to know you.”

source

Here you go: a nice video of Josh Brolin talking about Jonah Hex. He’ll tell you what it’s like to make out with Megan Fox.

So remember how we were all like “Whaaa??? Ray Stevenson is VOLSTAGG?” a while ago? And how he’s… you know… not fat? Well, similar to how the Blob was done for Wolverine, Ray Stevenson will get his own fat suit. In regards to the suit, he has said: “I’ve tried the suit on, and what they’ve done is kind of sex him up: he’s sort of slimmer but rounder.” …what? A sexy Volstagg? Punisher, are you nuts?! I just hope they give him a bitchin’ beard.

source

So are you excited to see the new Spider-Man movie? Yeah, I’m not really either. But I’ll be seeing it. But will we be seeing Bryce Dallas Howard in it? When asked, she said quite simply: “I don’t know.” Thanks Bryce! We’ll check in with you again later!

source

NOW! For those who have been internet rumor hounds, you might have heard a little something about the possible villain for the new movie. I refuse to post this as actual news because it just seems so unbelievably stupid, and after all the backlash Spider-Man 3 received, I just couldn’t believe they’d go and do something like this. But if you want to believe it as truth, you can click here and read all about it. Me? I’ll wait for a trailer.

Rotten Tomatoes conducted an interview with Robert Downey Jr about the new Iron Man movie, and the “realism” to it. RDJ had this to say:

…we made Tony Stark’s challenges very much outside the usual realm of activity. As much as anything else, it’s much more of a side job for him the second time around. And the great thing, too, is that the Marvel universe is wild; it’s so far out. That’s the big balance to strike. It would be so easy to go so far out it would intergalactic and nothing would be grounded in reality any more.

Well, Iron Man rocked harder than any other origin movie I can think of (yeah, you heard me), so I’m gonna go ahead and give him the benefit of the doubt on this one.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
