I really liked the format of how I did last week’s round up. It was easy to type up, easy to look at when done, and … well, it was easy! And it made my life easier! So I’m using that format again. There is a good deal of news this week as well, so click behind the cut for everything you could ever want in life. Unless your name is Conan.

  • Joe Johnston, the director of the Captain America movie, did an interview with Film Journal in which he states that the film will focus on Cap in the 1940’s, and the end of the movie will sync up with the other Avengers flicks. Presumably, it will end with Captain America getting frozen in ice (though I doubt it will be canon with how it happened in the comics), and then he’ll be thawed out by Stark and Fury. Just a guess.
  • In an interview with SFX magazine, Robert Downey Jr expressed how optimistic he is about the Avengers films… but only if they’re done right. We agree, RDJ. He also talks about his mindset in Iron Man 2.
  • Matthew Vaughn did an interview with Comic Book Resources about Kick-Ass, and stated he wanted to do a Sandman movie. At first I was like “:-(,” but then I was like, “Oh wait, Stardust was actually good.”
  • At one point in time, Ryan Gosling was rumored to be in the running for Green Lantern. Obviously that didn’t happen, and MTV talked to Gosling about just why “superhero movies aren’t for him.”
  • In an interview with The LA Times, Joel Silver says he still plans/wants to make a Sgt Rock movie, but it’s going to take place in the future, not WWII. Uhm. Well, ok. I guess it could make sense if set in contemporary war times.
  • The female lead of Cowboys and Aliens has been cast, and it’s Olivia Wilde, opposite of James Bond Daniel Craig. Judgement will be reserved on my part until the film is released.
  • In a mostly Star Trek related interview, Patrick Stewart said he didn’t expect to make an appearance in X-Men: First Class like he did in Wolverine. That’s too bad, considering he was the most perfect casting for that movie/role. Come on. The man IS Professor X.
  • Over at Coventry Telegraph, Don Cheadle talks a bit about his role as James Rhodes/War Machine, announcing that he has no plans to have a solo movie with the character and that he is looking forward to Iron Man 3. 3? Already? Cool!
  • Director Martin Campbell talks about Green Lantern’s constructs. Green Lantern’s constructs will be in the movie. Can I have this movie now please?
  • Marvel’s next animated film is going to be Thor: Tales Of Asgard. Watch a clip of it here.
  • Briefly, the internet went aflame with thoughts that there might be a sequel to Watchmen. But then another anonymous source said “lol no.” In the words of Rorschach, “hrrrmmmmmm.”
  • Joe Johnston has revealed to SciFi Wire that we’ll get a casting reveal of Captain America soon. Who do you think they’ll announce as Cap?
  • Meanwhile, on the other side of Sci Fi Wire, Anthony Hopkins wants to look like God in Thor. You already do, Anthony. You already do…
  • Mark Millar says that the script to Wanted 2 is almost done. Were you a fan of the first movie? I wasn’t, especially in comparison to the book, buuuut I’ll probably see it anyway, especially with Millar heavily involved and… you know, him being crazy and all.
  • The star of upcoming Percy Jackson, Logan Lerman, is supposedly in talks to become Peter Parker in Marc Webb’s reboot, according to Access Hollywood. The 18 year old looks young enough to play a 16 year old and is apparently a Spidey fan. Hmm. Nerd him a bit, then we’ll talk. Wait, I mentioned he’s the star of Percy Jackson? Ok. He’s nerded up. For the record, he’s just flattered to be considered. Aww. What a cute kid.
  • In case you’re wondering, Iron Man 2 takes place before Incredible Hulk, according to Jon Favreau.
  • 20th Century Fox is planning to reboot Daredevil. I will miss my children’s park fight scenes between two sub-par actors. Except not really.

Matthew Meylikhov

Once upon a time, Matthew Meylikhov became the Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Multiversity Comics, where he was known for his beard and fondness for cats. Then he became only one of those things. Now, if you listen really carefully at night, you may still hear from whispers on the wind a faint voice saying, "X-Men Origins: Wolverine is not as bad as everyone says it issss."
